Texas, My Texas
What I’m doing once I’m back in the lovely lone star state:
Giving my parents a HUGE hug It’s going to be a Rick-Al-Lizzy bocadillo!
Going to Chick-Fil-A and ordering a number one with no pickles, a large coke, and polynesian sauce. And then once I’m done drinking that coke, I’m going to get a free refill.
Eating TEX MEX!! Chuy’s for Happy Hour and creamy...

Can’t touch this. Yep. I got too cocky with my pantsuits and thought I could pull off parachute pants. Negative. But now I can do the MC Hammer dance with no judgement…Stop. Hammertime! Side note: I realize the video quality isn’t amazing, but you can’t expect much. We were in a third world country…nothing is exactly up to par there.
Mas caballos en Jerez. I forgot that my camera also records audio, so just ignore my commentary.
Caballos en Jerez. Before we did the wine tasting, we got to see a short horse show (another thing Jerez is famous for). Although personally, I think the horses got to the wine before we did. There is no way a sober horse could do some of the things they were doing! They were walking sideways, backwards, backwards and sideways at the same time… At one point, the trainer even got the horse to...
email from Gma
“Que es hairagomi? La palabra no esta en mi diccionario. Tambien, algunos bailes Waka? Cuando tu llegaras a casa en julio, tu puedes demonstrar esas palabras nuevas. No mas donuts!con amor, tu abuela” I hope you don’t mind, Gma, but I had to share your email…it was just too cute! So this post is dedicated to you, mi querida abuelita. Te amo mucho :)
mas cosas que he aprendido
The past and past perfect tense (notice the title). Before this week I was still a little hazy on those tenses and so I only spoke in the present tense, which just made me sound like a 5 year old. But tonight, I managed to use the past tense and even told a joke in spanish that made my senora laugh. It was most likely a sympathy laugh (similar to the laughing I do when I don’t know what she...
como un jefe
I feel like my Spanish is not improving as much as I would like BUT I can now control a fork with my left hand and peel my nisperos (my new favorite fruit - yes, mom, I do eat fruit on occasion) like a boss.
lo que he aprendido hoy
Longchamp bags are a dead give away that you are American (sorry Marg and Aunt Mary…you’ll never pass as Spaniards)
Don’t take water fountains for granted! They are nowhere to be found in Sevilla. I don’t understand how more people aren’t passing out on the streets from the heat in combination with all the walking that is done here.
Don’t play soccer with...
Follow Up
Probably minutes after I posted my previous post about running after that guy in the park, my mom messaged me via gchat while she was at work:
Elizabeth: saw your blog entry….chasing boys? is that really a good idea?
A few minutes after that, my dad signed on at home and messaged me this:
Rick: about this running after some guy? some people might not want their picture taken
and...
"fatter people are happier" →
Psychologists and psychiatrists have found that fatter people are happier than thinner people. I am living proof of that claim. I’ve definitely softened up quite a bit since being here (just see my previous post and you’ll know why), but I’ve never been happier!! {side note, but figured it was appropriate: was typing this when she called us for lunch….we had cooked...
More creepin...it's what I do.
Saw a guy jogging in the park with “Alice” on the back of his t-shirt today! So naturally, I followed him. I was jogging slowly behind him trying to get out my camera when he turned around and started running faster. I couldn’t keep up. Yeah, I definitely blend in here.
People Watching (also known as creepin)
My favorite game to play while walking to and from school is ‘guess their nationality.’ Por ejemplo, today I thought I was looking at some guido American tourists - you know…they had big hair and those old school track jackets that aren’t really meant for running but are super shiny and they were getting into a car with two unnaturally tan guys in wife beaters. But,...
Algunas Cosas
Things I’m bringing back to the states from Espana:
Mi senora
Rollerblading - It is everywhere. I feel like I’m in a bad 90s movie…I love it!
Siestas
Eating carbs - I love that it is socially acceptable for bread and potatoes to be a main part of every meal (which unfortunately means I’m probably brining back some extra cushioning as well)
‘Vale’ - They...
flamenco dancing in a cave in Granada…OLE!
¡Que Bueno!
My Spanish is still no bueno buuut my Spanglish is AMAZING, so my communication skills are slowly improving. {as I’m typing this, Senora Charo came in and I had no idea what she was saying and somehow agreed to eating an ice cream bar and a bowl of ice cream even though I was already full}
Went out with legit espanoles finally. Best conversation of night: one of them said, “I eat...
Bootay (noun)
1 Ghetto fabulous word for one’s gluteus maximus. Nicki Minaj has a huge bootay. 2 Thing next to toilet in most European bathrooms. Alice just ran out of toilet paper and definitely had to use the bootay instead. See also BIDET.

hola Sevilla
Met mi señora today! She is adorable. Definitely the most stylish señora of the group. She is very patient with my awful Spanish. But somehow, we are managing to communicate. For dinner she made us Gazpacho and tortilla de patata. We went through the textbook conversation – do you have brothers, where are you from, what do you study, etc. I did a pretty good job recalling my Spanish 1 and 2 in...
